Display Roof Installation for Solar Training
SMS Training Academy

Project Brief
SMS, one of the UK’s prominent providers of integrated energy solutions, sought to elevate their Bolton-based training facility, the SMS Training Academy, to enhance their practical training programs for trainee engineers. With a strong focus on renewable energy, SMS required a facility that would support hands-on, real-world training for solar panel installations. Premier Facilities Management delivered a display roof installation and optimised the space to accommodate realistic training scenarios.
Contact Us NowProject Scope and Objectives
The primary goal was to create a functional and realistic training environment within the SMS Training Academy. This involved the installation of a display roof designed to replicate real-world conditions for solar panel training, complete with electrical connectivity for hands-on learning. Additionally, the project aimed to maximise the use of space by removing and reconfiguring existing partition walls to create designated training and breakout areas, ensuring a streamlined and efficient facility layout.

From Concept to Completion
Expanding the Training Area
We removed a 1100mm-high partition wall to expand the training area, replacing it with a new wall designed to support a display roof for solar training.
Display Roof Installation:
A lean-to display roof was installed atop the new wall, featuring half tiles and half slate to replicate real-world roofing. The setup includes underneath access, enabling trainees to view structural details and solar installations. The roof was fully connected to an electrical system, supporting live solar training.
Creation of New Classroom Area
To further enhance training facilities, 4m-high partition walls were installed, complete with doors, windows, decorative finishes, and carpet tiles, creating a modern and functional classroom for engineers.
